Metric Ball Bearings

The most common type of ball bearings, these are widely used in agricultural equipment, manufacturing machinery, general engineering, transmissions, gearboxes, wheel hubs, garden equipment, vehicles, washing machines and plenty more. If something rotates, there’s probably a ball bearing in there somewhere.

Metric ball bearings use millimetre measurements – so you’ll see sizes like 6203 (17mm bore, 40mm outer diameter, 12mm width) or 6305 (25mm bore). The numbering system’s standardised across manufacturers, which makes replacement straightforward. If you know the bearing number, you know the exact dimensions.

Most of what we stock are deep groove ball bearings – they’re the workhorses of the bearing world. Handle radial loads well, cope with a bit of axial load, and run at decent speeds. We keep them in open, sealed, and shielded versions. Open bearings need external lubrication but run cooler. Sealed (2RS) or shielded (ZZ) keep the grease in and dirt out, which is what most people want for general applications.

Material-wise, standard chrome steel for most uses. We also stock stainless steel versions if you’re dealing with moisture, food processing, or marine environments – they cost more but won’t rust.

Quality levels vary. We stock budget bearings for light-duty or non-critical applications where cost matters. For anything that sees heavy use, vibration, or where failure would be expensive, stick with genuine FAG, SKF, or NTN. Yes, they cost more, but they last considerably longer.

Common sizes are usually in stock for same day dispatch. Less common sizes might take a day or two.
